Ayutthaya was a Siamese kingdom that existed from 1350 to 1767 and my last pit stop for the year 2010.

Founded around 1350, Ayutthaya became the second capital of Siam after Sukhothai, and came to a quick end when the Burmese invaded Ayutthaya in 1767 and almost completely burnt the city down to the ground.

We arrived at Suvarnabhumi Intl Airport, Bangkok at 8:30 AM of June 7, 2011 from New Delhi India. Instead of flying directly to Manila, We decided to stop in Thailand to visit Ayuttaya. From Suvarnabhumi Airport, we took the Airport Express Train (90baht) to Makasan Station then take a short walked heading Amari Atrium Hotel wherein we stayed.

From Bangkok to Ayuttaya

We get into a convenient minibus service (can get stuck in traffic, but makes no stops like regular buses) operates from the Victory Monument square in Bangkok. Take BTS Skytrain to the Victory Monument station, and go right on the elevated walkway - keep on it until you cross a large road, then descend - the buses are parked at the side side of the main traffic circle). The cost is usually ~70 baht, takes around 1 hour or 1 hour 20 min. It's quite convenient since you don't have to go to bus terminals (nearby Mochit) but the only problem is that the minibuses don't have much space to put big bags and have to wait until the car is fully filled.

In Ayuttaya, we hired Tuk-tuk to explore, the driver and his assistant serve as our tour guide, they drove us to the places we selected and loved to visit. They offered a reasonable fee.

Incredible India

There is something about India, why we are fascinated to see her. There are three must-see places wherein every people can say – India is colorful, magnificent and INCREDIBLE. Delhi, Agra and Jaipur are those places that they also called, The Golden Triangle.

“The Golden Triangle is so called because of the triangular shape formed by the locations of New Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan on a map, but is occasionally expanded to include the wider geographical area of North India, most frequented by tourists. Most tourist fly from Delhi, travel north to the site of the Taj Mahal at Agra,, then West to the desert landscapes of Rajasthan, including the city of Jaipur. These three cities are very famous and that is a basic and most famous route for a tourist to visit in India.” (Wikipedia)

According to our research on the internet, It says, “India's Golden Triangle is a tourist circuit which includes: Delhi, Agra (including the Taj Mahal), and Jaipur. These trips usually last 7 or 8 days and do the trip as a circuit starting and ending in Delhi. It is normally possible to do the trip by coach or private journey

Thus, we contacted various tour operators and requested a quotation for our proposed 4-day Golden Triangle Tour instead of 7 or 8 days, without hotel reservation because we did our online hotel reservation. We stayed at Hotel Bright located Connaught Place New Delhi for 2 nights – only a two star hotel but it was newly renovated and clean, no bad odor. In Jaipur, we checked in at Sheraton Rajputana Hotel and Jaypee Palace Hotel in Agra, both are 5-star hotels just to be sure that we're staying in a clean hotel.

Among the operators, we selected Mr. Narendra Poonia’s quotation since he gave us the best rate of 4,000 INR (per person minimum of 4 persons). Mr. Narendra is a Director at Colorful Indian Holidays ( www.colourfulindianholidays.com ) based at Jaipur City, Rajasthan India. His quotation includes Toyota Innova van with chauffer and a tour guide at every city -- excluding Hotel, entrance ticket, camera fee, TIP, foods and drinks, etc. This was our first time of having a tour guide in all of our travels, “mahagad sa Tip”. Anyway, it’s India so it’s fine.

On June 2, 2011of 9:00 PM, we’re boarding at NAIA Terminal 2 and flying to Delhi India via Philippine Airlines Flight PR758, Airbus A330 with the capacity of 150 passengers we’re only 43 passengers on board and we’re the only Filipino (4) passengers. It’s a 6 hours and 30minutes journey from Manila to Delhi, so we arrived at 1:10 AM (India Time) of June 3, 2011.

By the way, A Philippine citizen can apply an India Visa upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, but we decided to apply here in Manila before flying.

At arrival area, we met Mr. Narendra’s representative and drove us going to our hotel located at the Connaught Place Circus, New Delhi.

Day 1 & 2 – DELHI

Being the capital of India, Delhi embodies the modern and historical world, the New and the Old. New Delhi is the hip-hop side while the Old Delhi is the cultural and heritage side. In Totality Delhi fascinates us with its world heritage palaces and temples and with newly built contemporary structures that speak of India’s magnificent history.

We're just passed the Red Fort (another world heritage site) in Old Delhi since the Red Fort in Agra is better than this fort (according to our Delhi Guide).

Day 2 & 3 – JAIPUR

Colorful Jaipur is a 6-hours journey by car from New Delhi, the road is nice but there are lots of toll fee before we reached the city of Pink. Personally, I was really overwhelmed in this capital city of Rajasthan. A more than 200-year old city, called Pink City, huge forts, exotic palaces, temples which are all listed in the world heritage and lots of animals on the streets. Here in Jaipur, we met Mr. Narendra we paid and then he gave me a souvenir frame.

Jantar Mantar - an observatory built in 1782 to measure the position of the stars or calculating eclipses (just in year 2010, it's included in UNESCO World Heritage Site)
The Water Palace or Jal Mahal Palace-The first four floors of Jal Mahal is under water, only the top floor remains outside. Built in the mid 18th century. It is noted for its intricate architecture.

Day 3 & 4 - AGRA

Listed on the World Heritage Site, one of the 8 wonders of the world or now called the new 7 wonders of world, whatever they called it. It’s the TAJ MAHAL, built for everything – stands for a monument of love.

We planned to go to India, just for this superb monument which had been the benchmark for other structures in the world.

Taj Mahal is located in the City of Agra in the State of Uttar Pradesh, India.

Agra is a 5-hour drive from Jaipur City, but before we officially entered the City, we dropped by in another famous destination which we included in our itinerary, the Fatehpur Sikri,

just 45 kilometer from Agra, built in 1570 and was first known as Fatehabad.

This is a gate of another old-century palace which I forgot the name (sorry because it's not included in our itinerary) our driver just dropped us there and I took some photos.

Agra to Delhi was another 5-hour drive. At Around 6:00 PM we’re at Indira Gandhi International Airport waiting for our flight bound to Thailand.

For four days of exploring the Golden Triangle of India, under the 47 degrees temperature was another unforgettable experience of my journey. I survived the negative 11 temperature in Seoul and now as high as 47 degrees in India....so what would be next?

A Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures

The Green Heart of Borneo, a Kingdom of Unexpected Treasurers, the Pearl and Tropical Paradise of the East are the new taglines for tourism promotion used to describe Brunei Darussalam.

On April 21 to April 24, 2011, my sister and I spent our vacation In Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital city of Brunei Darussalam. Two to three days is enough to explore the whole city since it was not that big as Hong Kong.

Around 60,000 people live in this city, which remains remarkably quiet even at the height of rush hour. My sister said, it’s like a ghost town.

Bandar Seri Begawan is located in Brunei-Muara District, one of the four districts in Brunei.

Brunei-Muara District attractions and Sightseeing

Kampong Ayer – stretching for several miles along the banks of the Brunei River, It’s Brunei’s famed water village, is a fascinating glimpse into Brunei’s past. Some people refer it as the Venice of the East.

Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation Complex, opened in July 1996, It’s a shopping center which the income generates from this is for the welfare of the Bruneian people.

Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque – is one of the most magnificent mosques in Southeast Asia, built in 1958, as a Sultanate symbol of faith. It’s just a few steps from the Yayasan Complex. This mosque is open for visitors, but they are asked to dress conservatively when entering inside.

Outside of this mosque is surrounded by a man made lagoon wherein the replica of 16^th century Royal Barge is display. The view is very captivating at night when the lights are switch on.

We walked on the streets of Bandar Seri Begawan even the heat is on and relatively dry.

Take some photos, until we reached the Royal Regalia Museum – built to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Sultan Bolkiah’s ascension to the throne. Inside, visitors can see the priceless collections such as jewel-encrusted crown, a royal chariot, gold and silver armoury, a replica throne and gifts that Sultan has received including a jewelry box from the Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of the Philippines. Also the full documentation of the history of the Constitution of Brunei Darrusalam are all exhibited inside.

We did not go to Brunei History Center, and other Brunei and Malay museum as well as art galleries, because we’re not interested. Instead we took a cab going to the Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque-which also known the Kiarong Mosque because of its location. In this mosque tourists are also allowed to go inside provided that they are dressed conservatively, but they are allowed to wear a long gown like a graduation gown for free and camera is not allowed inside.

IstanaNurul Iman- is the official residence of His Majesty the Sultan. It is the largest residential palace in the world with golden and sweeping rooflines that can be seen from the long road of Jalan Tutong and from picturesque park along the Brunei River. This palace is open to public during Hari Raya, when locals and tourists alike have the opportunity to greet the Sultan and member of the royal family.

We took a bus from central bus terminal in BSB going to the Jerudong Park and Playground- the famous four-in-one-state-of the-art entertainment, golf, horse riding and exclusive catering to the well-to-do in Brunei. It’s a beautiful 57 hectares wonderland that took four years to complete. The Park’s operating hours for the rides are generally from 5pm until midnight. We just took pictures outside and go back to the city.

We stayed atJubilee Hote located within the city center. The hotel offers a transfer service from/to Brunei Airport.

Revisit Bangkok

My mother’s 60^th birthday

(Late post)

When I visited Bangkok Thailand in 2008, I said I don’t want to go back again, but 2 years after, my mother asked me to go back with her on her 60^th birthday. She doesn’t like to have a celebration but a BKK tour instead. “Ang sosyal ng nanay ko, demanding ba! Hahaha”, anyway she is my mother and I want her to be happy on her first step entering into a Senior Citizen Life. (lol)

Together with my father and my 3 cousins joined us for this trip.

November 21, 2010, we arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport one of the busiest airport in the world. After we passed the immigration, we looked for our transfer service, a mini van which I booked online.

It’s about 20 to 30 minutes journey from the airport to Baiyoke Suite Hotel in Pratunam area wherein we stayed for 4 nights.

Bayoike Suite Hotel is in the shopping area of Bangkok walking distance to malls and markets.

DAY 1: Palaces and Jewelries

After Breakfast, We hired 2 Tuk Tuk (tricycle Thai style) in front of the hotel to bring us at the Grand Palace, but the drivers requested that they will drop us at various jewelry shops, for them to get a free gasoline coupon from the shops;

We also stopped in one temple ( I don’t know the name) wherein We met a military who serve the KING for 15 years, He is a half Filipino and Half Thai, He visited the temple to check and secure the place since the KING will be coming at noon. Since he is a “kababayan”, He allowed us to enter the temple and took some pictures, He didn’t speak tagalog, according to him, His mother is a cousin of the Ayala’s, (whatever) but I forgot already the exact story. Hehehe

After 4 or 5 stop over at different jewelry stores, we continued our journey to the Grand Palace. Tuk tuk fare was 100 Baht plus 20 Baht tip.

Grand Place Entrance fee is 350 Baht; a Map is available at the gate which will guide you inside, if you don’t have a tour guide.

After exploring the Grand Palace, we walked heading to the Wat Pho, wherein the huge reclining Buddha is homed. The entrance fee is 50 Baht.

From the Wat Pho we took a short walk bound to the Tha Thien Pier and hop-in a boat going to the other side of the river wherein the Wat Arun (The temple of Dawn) is located. Boat fare costs 3 Baht. To climb at the Wat Arun an entrance fee of 50 Baht must be paid.

In Wat Arun my mother and my cousins rented a Thai traditional costume (100 Baht) for pictorials.

Then hop-in again on the boat back to the Tha Thien Pier and took tuktuk going back to the hotel.

DAY 2: Markets and Malls

After breakfast, we walked around Pratunam market even there the pedestrian side walks are extremely crowded by vendors and shoppers. Malls and High-end Malls are walking distance from Pratunam market. We proceed to The Central World mall,
one of the largest in Asia, and then to Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, other malls which I forgot already the names (memory gap – lol) then we ended to MBK.

Day 3: Elephants and Crocodiles

In the morning of Day 2, we booked first a transport service at the hotel for our Day 3’s Samphran tour for 2000 Baht.

At 10:00 AM we’re heading to Samphran Elephant and Ground Zoo in Nakhon Pathom province.

Here in Samphran, tourist will watch an elephant and crocodile shows, there is also a magic show, prior to the elephant’s.

After the show we requested the driver (We paid additional 200 Baht) to drop us at the Golden Mount Thailand before heading to the hotel. But unfortunately it is closed for cleaning. We could not reach the top of the temple.

Dinner time, we celebrated my mother’s birthday at the Sky Restaurant located at the 78^th floor of Baiyoke Sky Hotel, the highest restaurant in Bangkok with a 360 degrees view overlooking the city.

But before dinner we went first at the Bayoike observatory level at the 84^th floor, it’s an open air level rotating 360 degrees. It’s free of charge for customers just present the paid restaurant coupon.

While on dinner, I was sure that my mother was very happy for experiencing that kind of celebration which is another first in her life, Our 3 official guests (lol) also enjoyed the night and the foods. Kidding aside, my mother had plenty of visitors from different countries but they paid their own plate, I paid only 6 pax (lol).

Day 4: Fly Back Home

There is a nearest Airport express train station in Bayoike Hotel, but we hired a transfer service van instead due to some reasons.

Our flight back home was at the evening, so they spent the day for shopping since my mother and cousins are bargain addicts (lol).

Guangzhou 2010

The City

14 days before 16^th Asian Games we arrived at Canton also known as Guangzhou the third largest city in China and Southern China’s largest city.

Asiad

The 2010 Asian Games, also known as the XVI Asiad, are scheduled to take place in Guangzhou, China from November 12 to November 27, 2010. Guangzhou is the second city in China to host the Games after Beijing in 1990.

Tourist Attractions

Actually I didn’t impress with their tourist attractions, maybe because I saw more attractive and world heritage places in Beijing, Shanghai China and also in Taiwan. I like the city for having great and modern architectural buildings and structures

We visited their top tourist attractions (which call our interest) in just 5 hours, they are accessible via metro.

Six Banyan Tree Temple (Liurong Street) was built in 537 and named after six banyan trees that once grew in its courtyard.

Inside the temple complex sits the wondrously decorated, 175-foot-high Flower Temple, which for a long time was the tallest structure in Guangzhou. In the main hall there are stone tablets and three giant bronze Buddhas,

each weighing 10 tons, that are the biggest old bronze pieces in Guangdong province. Nearby the temple is the Mosque Dedicated to a Saint which is the oldest mosque in China. The famous "naked minaret" is found on this mosque.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was built on the site of the house that Dr. Sun occupied when he was the provisional president in 1922. Located inside the beautiful 247-acre Yue Xiu Park, the Memorial Hall includes an octagonal palace and 4,700-seat auditorium.

Built in 1959, Five-Ram Sculpture is one of the most famous scenic spots in Guangzhou. The whole sculpture was built using 130 pieces of marbles. The height of the sculptures from the base is more than 10 meters and it symbolizes a beautiful legend.

Canton Tower

The tower is now holding the world’s tallest surpassing the CN tower of Canada becomes the new landmark of Canton. It’s actually open to public but not 100% constructed. Shops and other facilities are not yet opened or completed. Entrance fee ranges from RMB 100 to 200 depending on what level you want to view the whole city.

We stayed at Luihua Hotel near in Yuexiu Park area and fronting Guangzhou Railway station, beside the hotels are malls or garments bank wherein shoppers can buy cheap garments and accessories but in volume of orders.

Our hotel booking would be for four nights, but since we felt boring in the city we decided to check out on the third’s and moved to Macao, since we had a double entry -visa applied here in Manila.

It’s two and a half hour journey from Canton to Gongbei port (boarder of Macao and Mainland China) in Zhuhai by bus for RMB75 (one way fare)

"Towering aloft on the shore of the picturesque Xianglu Bay in urban areas of Zhuhai, the sculpture of fishing girl has a graceful figure blooming with beauty. The girl wears a necklace around the neck, and ties nets around the waist with trouser legs slightly rolled up. She holds a pearl high in the air with both hands in an elegant pose, as if declaring publicly its bright luster and offering a precious treasure."

Macao / Macau

After passing the China and Macao immigration, we took the free shuttle and proceed toVenetian Hotel to check in.

It’s my third time in Macao but still I’m amazed in this small island.

Instead of visiting Macao’s world heritage sites, which I got more pictures during my first visit, I rather go to casinos and tried my luck

Then the next day we’re back in Canton, we arrived at 10:30PM in Liuhua hotel to get our luggage and transfer to Pullman Hotel beside the Canton Airport wherein we stayed the night before off to Manila.

Bohol is a little island paradise in the southern Philippines. The most notable among the tourist attractions in Bohol is Chocolate Hills. However, there are more reasons why one should visit Bohol. The many activities and places to see is enough to make visitors see the place as a sanctuary for a lot of nature's beauty.

Another enchanting Island/Islands in my Philippines is Caramoan.

Very little is known about Caramoan. Isolated from the rest of Camarines Sur, it is no surprise why Philippine's Secret Paradise remains unexploited from commercial tourism.

Caramoan gives 'island hopping' a new meaning. Enjoy its beauty in many ways. Great ocean adventures for kayakers, snorkle and scuba dive to experience the diverse marine life, trek and search for the enigmatic lagoon, rock climb the limestone cliffs, explore the caves or just star gaze at night.

"Taiwan will touch your heart.”Before, Taiwan called “Formosa” means beautiful, a name given by Portuguese explorers passing by on the way to Japan in the 16th century.

And Ilha means Island,

Taiwan is a beautiful island.

Taiwan has world-class natural landscapes such as the awesome TAROKO GORGE; it is the repository of true Chinese culture; its NATIONAL PALACE MUSEUM is listed as one of the five top museums in the world; it has the world-famous building in TAIPEI 101; and it has the highest mountain in Northeast Asia, Yushan or Jade Mountain. They also have some of the friendliest people in the world, 24-hour bookstores and convenience shops, and bustling night markets—all of which imprint indelible memories in the minds of visitors.

I’ve been in Taiwan on March 29 to April 3, 2010. My week in Taiwan was so enriching.

With my sister and some friends, we stayed at Yomi Hotel in Ming Sheng E Road, Taipei.
This hotel is two blocks away from MTR station, so it’s not difficult for us to explore Taiwan. Train or MRT is best way of transportation to explore this country.

Day 1 – Hot Spring and Grass Mountain

Beitou Thermal Valley Beitou is the most mountainous and highest of Taipei's districts. Beitou is famous for its hot springs. Residents of this district note that sulfuric fumes from the hot springs do ruin their electric appliances in the long term.

National Palace Museum is listed as one of the five top museums in the world.The wild Yehliu Geopark is located at Wanli with a long cape. Because the rock layer of nearby seashore contains limestone subject to sea erosion, weathering and earth movements.Mushroom rocks have attracted the attention of most tourists visiting Yehliu. Originally these rocks had gone through sea erosion and, as time goes by, the hard concretion came out to have experience the impact of wind, sun, rain, sea-water and strong northeastern monsoon.Day 3 – Magnificent and Beautiful

Taroko GorgeThe name, Taroko, means the "magnificent and beautiful". Taroko National Park is one of the seven national parks in Taiwan and was named after the Taroko Gorge, the landmark gorge of the park.It’s almost 3 hours journey from Taipei City to Hualien County by train. In Hualien we joined in a group tour going to the National Park. It’s a whole day tour, at around 4:00 pm we’re heading back to Taipei City.

Day 4 – Historical and Exhibits

Day 5 – World’s Record

Taipei 101 is the structure dwarfed the Petronas Twin Tower in Malaysia. Taipei 101 was the world’s tallest building from late of year 2003 to early 2010.
We paid a certain amount to enter the building up to observatory area (89th floor) and ride with the world’s fastest elevator.
Unfortunately we have seen nothing at the observatory area because of the bad weather.
During lunch time of our last day in Taiwan, we met again the whole group to have lunch and shop some souvenir items.

Taiwan truly touched my heart, A Clean Country and people are well disciplined.

Yes, really…I' m dreaming for a white Christmas, since I was a kid. Snowing in the Philippines (wherein I live) never happened (lol). Last Christmas season (December 2009), for the first time I got it… in South Korea. Unfortunately, not all Koreans are celebrating Christmas, but they light up the city for Christmas season.

Seoul City Travel Information

Mountains circle Seoul on all sides with Namsan (South Mountain) springing up in the center. Although the Han River once marked the southern boundary, the city has sprawled across to the southern side with some 2 dozen bridges crossing it and one subway tunnel underneath. As Korea's capital and most populous city, Seoul represents the country's center for business, education, and modern culture. It offers many activities for everyone, including museums and palaces, parks and mountains, and amusement parks and night clubs.

Doctor Doctor I am Sick

I was sick when I went to South Korea. I got mumps and fever. The big question was….Are they allowing me to enter South Korea or they’re going to quarantine me?

So what I did is take Biogesic (endorsement huh!) 2 hours before landing at Incheon International Airport.

My fever’s gone, when we arrived. I covered my neck with my jacket so Korean Health personnel at the airport did not notice that I was sick

Korean Immigration Staff asked me some questions before she allowed me to enter.

Lady: Hello, Is this your first time in Korea? (While opening my passport)

Me : Yes

Lady: Are you alone?

Me : No, I’m with my friends.

Lady: How many are you?

Me : We’re four.

Lady: Where are you staying?

Me : at the hotel…Hyundai Residence Hotel

Lady : Ah…ok.. And why do you decide to visit Korea?

Me : To see the snow.

Lady: (laughed ….then she stamped my passport and said) Welcome to Korea

Getting around in Seoul, we took subway….the best way to avoid traffic.

If I was not mistaken, Seoul has 9 or 10 lines.

Returned in Hong Kong and Macau

When I was in Hong Kong and Macau last August 2008, I promised to myself that I will return in these 2 places with my family, and I did last October 24, 2009.

What a great feeling, experience and enjoyment I felt to travel with my own family.

I didn’t travel outside the country for one year just to prepare for this, to treat my family and have a great bonding far away from home.

I made our own itinerary.

Oct. 24, 2009 at 3:00 PM, we’re on PR 306 bound to Hong Kong. At the Hong Kong International Airport, I bought tourist octopus MTR card which every visitor can enjoy the 3 days unlimited ride on MTR, a free overseas call for 20 minutes, Airport Express Train ride from/to Airport and when you return the card before leaving Hong Kong, they will refund or pay you back a 50HKD for each card.

We alighted from Airport Express Train at Kowloon Station, then transfer to K2 shuttle bus for free going to our hotel, The Royal Pacific Hotel and Towers in Canton Road.

Hong Kong is one among the friendly tourist nations.

We visited a night market at Temple Street on our day 1.

Day 2, we went to Hong Kong Ocean Park, Then to Victoria Peak at 3:00 PM, and to the Avenue of Stars to watch the Symphony of Lights and sounds at 8:00 PM.

Day 3, Welcome to Disneyland and join their Halloween Celebration until 9:00 PM

Day 4, Whole day exploring Macau.

Day 5, We planned to go to Shenzhen, China but my mother refused to go, she is really tired, What we do was, shopping in Nathan Road.

At 5:30 PM of day 5, we’re on K2 Shuttle bus (again free ride) heading the Kowloon train station, from this station, we checked in our luggage and had our boarding pass of PAL 311 for 9:00 PM flight bound to Manila. Then we took the Airport express train going to Airport.

We explored one of the biggest Airports in the World while waiting the boarding time.

Traveling with my family is a God’s gift and a wonderful experience.

June 6, 2009 at 9:30 AM, we’re boarding with PAL 226 bound to Laoag, Ilocos Norte.

It’s only 45 minutes journey from Manila to Laoag via plane.

From Laoag International Airport, we proceed to Partas Bus Terminal for our first itinerary, visiting La Ciudad de Vigan. It’s a 2-hour journey from Laoag to Vigan City via bus.

We’re alighting infornt of Ilocos Sur Capitol Building and Vigan Cathedral or St. Paul Church (built between 1790 – 1800). We took a tricycle heading to Vigan Heritage Mansion. This mansion was the ancestral house of the late Hon. Pedro Singson (elected governor of Ilocos Sur). The house built in 1885 and restored by Gov. Chavit Singson’s daughter, and converted into an old world charm of a 19th century hotel. Vigan City is a World Heritage Site in that it is one of numerous Hispanic towns in the Philippines, and is well-known for its cobblestone streets, unique architecture that fuses Philippine building design, and construction with colonial European architecture.

In Calle Crisologo the visitors pull back the mood of historic Spanish times, feel the relaxed atmosphere between the humbleness of old, ancestral houses, located at the heart of Vigan, this is the best spot to shop for souvenir items.

From Calle Crisologo, we hired Kalesa and proceed to Burnayan (Pottery), where traditional burnay jars are made to perfection, fee the thrill of molding jars and indulge yourself to a one-stop for jars of different sizes and designs. Then to Hidden Garden wherein visitors can find collection of plants, flowers and trees.

Before sunset, we’re in Gov. Chavit Singson’s Balluarte which features a mini zoo, a skeet shooting range, and free palomino rides (but we never tried), but some area and other amenities are still for improvement or under construction.

The next day June 7, 2009 we took our breakfast at the plaza, taste and eat their famous Vigan Empanada.

Then we proceed to Bantay Church and Bell Tower, one of the oldest and largest churches in the country.

The residence of Fr. Jose Burgos is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It contains his memorabilia, archaeological and ethnographic treasures, dioramas, the Ilocos Hall of Fame, antique collections, a library and canvasses depicting the 1807.

At 12:00 noon, we’re at the Partas Bus Terminal in front of Vigan Public Market. We’re going back in Laoag City to continue our Ilocandia journey.

June 7, 2009… Back in Laoag

At Partas bus terminal, Palazzo De Laoag Hotel free shuttle service picked us.

This is Palazzo Hotel, rated as 3 star hotel by the Department of Tourism in Laoag City. The hotel has the complete amenities, such as free wifi, 2 swimming pools, function rooms, Kalesa Bar and others. After checking in, we hired a service vehicle to complete our itinerary in Laoag City, in Batac and Paoay Ilocos Norte.

Batac is known as the “home of great leaders”, as it is the hometown of many significant figures in the Philippines’ history. Among them was the former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos.
Paoay Church, also known as the St. Augustine Church, the church is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. Currently, it is a property of the Diocese of Laoag, Ilocos Norte. Construction of Paoay church was started by the Augustinian friars in 1694 and completed in 1894.
Malacanang of the North, This palace overlooks Paoay Lake, and is the residence of deposed president Marcos and his family when they were in the north. Port Ilocandia is a 5-star resort in the Northern Luzon, Philippines.

St. William’s Cathedral is a church in Laoag City. It was built in 1612. It is known for its Italian Renaissance design and it’s Sinking Bell Tower, which sinks into the ground at a rate of an inch a year.
This church was damaged by hurricane in 1640, by earthquake in 1706, by fire in 1843 and restored in 1880.

Evening of June 7 and the next day, June 8 we’re stayed at the hotel and enjoyed its facilities and amenities. At 4:00PM of June 8, we visited the Laoag City Museum then to Public Market to buy some Ilocano delicacies.

June 9, our hired vehicle arrived at 7:00 AM to service us bound to Pagudpud Ilocos Norte.

Before finally exit Laoag, we went first to Sarrat Ilocos Norte, also known for being the hometown of former Pres. Marcos. A town 7 kilometers to the east of Laoag.

The Santa Monica Church and Convent is a Philippine church complex found in the town of Sarrat. It’s documented as the largest church in the entire Ilocos Region. Built in the 17th century during Spanish colonial period.
Heading to Pagudpud, we dropped by at the following must see landmarks of Ilocos Norte.

Windmills in Bangui Bay Ilocos Norte. The windmills referred to as the North Wind Bangui Bay Project as energy sources of 40% of Ilocos Norte. It considered being the biggest in Southeast Asia.
This is the Patapat Viaduct at the edge of Northern Philippines. In Pagudpud we stayed overnight at the Polaris beach house in Saud Beach.
June 10, 2009, 12:00 noon we’re heading back to Laoag City International Airport to catch our flight bound to Manila at 7:30 PM.

Thank God we traveled safe.

April 3, 2009 Friday I bought bus ticket to Daragay Albay for 850 pesos with Isarog Bus in Cubao Quezon City. The bus left in Cubao Bus Station at 7:35PM and arrived at Daraga Albay the next morning, Saturday April 4 at around 11:30 AM. Yes it’s more than 15 hours journey from Manila to Albay; just because of traffic and this Isarog bus have many stop over. Shit this Bus.

April 5, 2009 when I arrived at Legaspi City Albay from Donsol, I rushed to the Bus Terminal to buy ticket going back to Manila the next day, April 6. I bought ticket with Cagsawa Bus for 920 pesos. I think this is the most expensive bus fare from Legaspi to Manila. They called it Royal Elite Bus, an excellent bus, only have two stop over, exactly 11 hours journey from Legaspi to Cubao, and very comfortable.

DONSOL

It’s a rainy Saturday when I arrived at Daraga Albay. I asked directions from the locals going to Donsol. I took jeepney for 70 pesos going to Donsol, it’s more than an hour trip. When the jeepney entered the town of Donsol I alighted at Brgy Awaii wherein Aguluz Homestay (a guest house) is located. I called Ms. Marilyn (cell phone number 0918-9420897), 3 days before my stay for a reservation of one single room. I paid 800 pesos for an over night stay.

Donsol is located in the Province of Sorsogon in Bicol Region. Donsol is the home of the world’s largest fish, the whale shark, locally known as BUTANDING. I proceed to the Donsol Tourism Office to register. Registration fee is 100 pesos per person. After registration a brief orientation on rules and guidelines followed. Then I looked for a group of tourists whom I would share motorboat on fireflies viewing and seeing the Butanding the next morning. Boat rental for fireflies viewing in Ogod river is 1,250 pesos with the capacity of 5 persons. So I paid 250 pesos only because I joined with two Germans and two Filipinos on a boat.

The next morning I joined in a boat of 6 foreigners for seeing Butanding. Boat rental is 3,500 pesos with the capacity of 7 persons. I paid on 500 pesos. Seeing the Butanding for the first time is an extremely exciting experience. It is very important to keep the safety procedures in mind, and always follow the lead and instructions of Butanding Interaction Officer.
Butanding are spotted year round in the sea of Sorsogon, the season starts around November and goes on through May. The peak season is February to April. According to the locals, the whale sharks are also more abundant before noon, as the waters are clearer and it easier to spot the whale sharks. From Daraga I went to Legaspi City, I took jeepney for 9 pesos only. Upon arriving at Legaspi I looked for a hotel wherein I can stay overnight. I stayed in Magayon Hotel, the only hotel with available rooms during that time.

Corregidor … the historic island

March 1, 2009, I woke up as early as 3:30 AM and never felt asleep. I was thinking where to go that Sunday. I took a bath and get dressed then I put my camera on my big pocket. At around 5:30 AM, I was in a cab heading at the CCP Complex Bay Terminal.
I tried to be a chance passenger of Sun Cruises going to Corregidor Island. Luckily I was number 2 passenger on queue; they prioritized those tourists with reservation and paid tickets to board, at around 7:30 AM. There is only one trip per day. The Sun Cruiser’s ferry scheduled to depart at 8:00 AM. At 7:30 AM, they called my name. I paid
P 2,000.00 for the ticket which include return ticket for the ferry boat, terminal fee, buffet lunch and Island tram with tour guide. I paid additional of P150.00 for Lights and Sounds show inside the Malinta Tunnel.

It’s a 1 hour and 30 minutes journey from Manila Bay to the Island.

Corregidor Island is located at the entrance of Manila Bay and about 48 kilometers west of Manila. Because of its strategic location it has served as a focal point for the naval defense of Manila.

The name Corregidor came from the Spanish word “corregir” meaning “to correct”,
Since the island was a checkpoint for vessels entering Manila Bay during Spanish and American occupations.

The Island also known as THE ROCK, it was a key bastion of the allied forces during World War 2. This island fortress stands as a memorial for the courage, valor and heroism of its Filipino and American defenders who bravely held ground against the overwhelming number of invading Japanese forces during World War 2.

The big guns of Corregidor are now silent and the ruins of buildings, structures and tunnels in the island tell a very moving story of war that has claimed so many lives.

Today, Corregidor’s rich history continues to draw Filipinos and foreign tourists alike, making the island one of the most visited tourist spots in the Philippines. This island is home to many historical treasures.

At 2:30 in the afternoon the guide tour ended and around 4:00 PM the ferry arrived at CCP Complex Bay Terminal, Manila.

A visit to this former battleground is a memorable experience especially for thouse who cherish and value peace and freedom.
General Douglas McArthur said,

“It is my earnest hope and indeed the hope of all mankind that a better world shall emerge out of the blood and carnage of the past – a world founded upon faith and understanding, a world dedicated to the dignity of man and the fulfillment of his most cherished wish for freedom, tolerance and justice."

Another year…another itinerary …

Before the end of January 2009, our client ABS PROMOTIONS CORPORATION requested me to audit their Davao Branch. I went to Davao City on January 30 to February 2.

Before PAL 819 landed on Davao International Airport, a voice over played, reminding that smoking is strictly prohibited in Davao public places. I am a smoker and I felt silly, just a little bit (lol).

From the airport I took a cab heading to Obrero District Davao City wherein ABS office located.

I started working, at around 4PM I walked around the city to look for a hotel wherein I can stay for 3 nights. I checked in at the We R inn hotel located in front of Gaisano Mall. The hotel is very accessible in public transportation, shopping centers, restaurant and bars.

I never tried to smoke while walking, a little bit scared… also ABS staff warned me not to do so. I smoked only on the designated places.

The next day, Saturday, I walked from the hotel to the office and continue my audit.

I found Davao City a clean city and safe to walk even at night. Thanks to Mayor Duterte. He is very successful to discipline the Davawenos.

Before leaving the office, I asked some directions with the staff going to the Philippine Eagle Center, in Malagos, Davao City.

To make sure, I also asked directions to the Hotel receptionist.

Sunday morning, I was in a tamaraw jeepney heading to Bangkeruhan wherein the VAN terminal going to Matina is located. From Matina, I rented a motorcycle to Philippine Eagle Center.

The Philippine Eagle is the tallest and the most powerful bird in the world. It is also called, the monkey-eating eagle.

At around 3PM I went back to City center; proceed to Magsaysay Fruit Vendor association area fronting of China Town to buy some pasalubong and souvenirs.

Monday, I finished my work early to catch up my flight to Manila at 7:30PM but “expectedly” PAL 814 flight was delayed by 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Davao is a nice place, a largest city in Mindanao and probably in the Philippines.
Definitely I will come back to explore more of Davao soon.

But a week before Davao, I went to Pampanga, in San Roque, Magalang for a fiesta celebrationI was invited by a friend Oscar, we went there together with our drinking buddies John, Arman and Michael. A night before the fiesta, we’re at Angeles City for a bar happing. Angeles City is a city in Pampanga Province that I think also “never sleep”.

We arrived at Changi Airport in Singapore on October 28, 2008 at around 10:00 AM and left the next day at 3:30PM bound to Kuala Lumpur.

Taxi fare from airport to the city center costs SG 80.00. Our taxi driver was very friendly. He approached and greets us in Tagalog. Yes, he speaks Tagalog just because he lived in Binondo Manila for many years and worked in Siliman University in Dumaguete as Mandarin Professor.

After we checked in our hotel wherein the receptionists were Filipina, in Selegie Road, we took our lunch in simple restaurant in front of the hotel. A simple meal costs SG 14.00 (expensive huh!), Then we started to explore the unique city. We always took the MRT to reach our destination very fast. First in our itinerary was the Marina Bay Area. From Little India or Bugis MRT Station, we alighted at City Hall Station and had a short walked following the signage to reach the…

ESPLANADE, Theatres on the Bay is without a doubt, Singapore's most exciting performance arts venue to date, Located at the waterfront overlooking Marina Bay.

Also lovingly dubbed “the Durian” by locals, after the prickly tropical fruit, the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay also houses a mall, cosmopolitan food outlets and the library esplanade – Singapore’s first arts library with literature and audio-visual materials covering music, dance, film and theatre. Then another short walk to Merlion Park. Merlion is the City’s famous landmark, half lion and half mermaid.
Singapore Flyer is the world's largest observation wheel. Standing at a stunning 165m from the ground, the Flyer offers you breathtaking, panoramic views of the Marina Bay, island city and beyond. But unfortunately, I never had a chance to ride on this wheel.

Aside from City Hall MRT Station, Raffles Place station is also the nearest in this area, so we took MRT and alighting at the Orchard Road Station.

Orchard Road is the Singapore’s premier shopping area.
The area also offers an array of goods and services to please and pamper the needs of shoppers, from fashion, entertainment, arts & culture to local delicacies and international gourmets.

During October and November Singapore also celebrates the Deepavali in Little India.

Deepavali is a colorful festival that is celebrated by all Hindus in Singapore, which is also known as the festival of lights. One important practice that the Hindus follow during the festival is to light oil lamps in their homes on Deepavali morning. By lighting the oil lamps, the Hindus are thanking the gods for the happiness, knowledge, peace and wealth that they have received. The Hindus consider Deepavali as one of the most important festivals to celebrate.

Before going back to the hotel and get rest, we proceed first to Bugis Market the largest street Market in Singapore to buy some souvenirs and then to the Night of Safari.
The next morning October 29 we took MRT going to Harbour front station, to explore the Sentosa Island. We bought ticket to enter Sentosa. Our ticket costs SG 58.00 inclusive of cable car rides, 3D movie show, under water world, Dolphin Show and entrance to China town museum. We only availed the ED movie, under water world and of course the cable ride to Sentosa and Monorail ride going back to Harbour front center. We rushed to our Hotel at 1PM to get our belongings and returned back to harbour front to catch our trip to KL at 3:30 PM by Aero Bus Line.

Truly Malaysia

It’s a 5 hour journey from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia by bus. After an hour we reached the Singapore Immigration, I presented my passport to finally exit Singapore. Then our bus crossed the bridge connecting Singapore and Malaysia. After passing the Malaysia Immigration, our journey continues, at 8:30 pm we arrived at Kuala Lumpur City Center or they called it KLCC.

Kuala Lumpur the capital city and represents the heartbeat of Malaysia, serving as its cultural, commercial and transportation center. KL is seen clearly in the various cultural customs and religious beliefs, as well as languages, and architecture.
KL is the best example of the city that has managed to preserve the best of its cultural heritage and combine it with modern conveniences to offer the best experiences to visitors.

Petronas Twin Towers (also known as the Petronas Towers or Twin Towers), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were the world's tallest buildings, before being surpassed by the Taipei 101. However, the towers are still the tallest twin buildings and office building in the world. Morning of October 30, 2008, we took MRT from the nearest station in our hotel then alighting at KLCC station.
Set in the heart of Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle, Suria KLCC is surrounded by hotels, office buildings, a scenic park and dancing fountains, promising hours of leisurely pleasure. From whichever entrance you take, the excitement hits you the minute you step into the sensational splendor and diversity of the centre.

Suria KLCC is Malaysia's premier shopping destination located at Kuala Lumpur prestigious commercial address, the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC). From Petronas Towers we walked along Jalan P. Ramlee heading the KL tower. KL tower is the 4th world’s tallest telecommunication tower. Entrance ticket cost RM 20 for adults. Above the tower you can see the whole KL in 360 degrees view.
From KL tower we took a cab going to Berjaya Times square one of the largest mall in the world.

Then we came back at Petronas to buy some souvenirs and avail the free walk to its Sky Bridge which scheduled at 4:30 PM.

From Petronas at KLCC MRT station we proceed to the Merdeka Square.

The Dataran Merdeka (or Merdeka Square) is situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. It was here the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957. Since then, Dataran Merdeka has been the usual venue for the annual Hari Merdeka Parade (National Day Parade)

TIP: if you’re not in hurry and wanted to see all Kuala Lumpur’s tourist attractions, you can ride its HOP IN HOP OFF Bus Service. It’s a double decker bus equipped with state of the art facilities. There are altogether 22 stops that you can hop on or hop off the bus.
So if you have the time (which we didn’t have) try to sit through the entire journey of the bus. But you need to be patient in waiting as punctuality is affected by the condition of the traffic.

At 6:30 PM we’re on the cab heading the airport to catch our flight bound to Bangkok Thailand.

Exotic Bangkok, Thailand

Welcome to the magnificent City of Golds and Angels. Bangkok offers every foreign visitor with unforgetable holiday experience.

Stone by stone, the city grew up to be a very suitable and fourth capital for the Thai Kingdom.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport, we took a cab for 900 bhat going to Bayoike Sky Hotel (Thailand tallest Structure) in the area of Pratunam market.

Speaking of Pratunam market, Bangkok is renowned as the best center for shopping in Asia, a wealth of shopping opportunities await visitors everywhere in Bangkok. With fabulous bargains few can resists, Thai goods are noted for high quality and low price, but be careful for some imitation of signature brand apparells.

The next morning, I ate hot and spicy breakfast. Yes almost all of thai foods serve on buffet table are hot and spicy. For 4 consecutives breakfast on this hotel I ate the same variety of hot and spicy foods (whew!)

Bangkok Day 1

Our hotel reservation (279usd twin sharing for Executive Suite) includes a half day city tour and buffet lunch, we went to different temples, jewelry and jade factory and leather factory.

The tour guide said, It’s better to take a cab than tuktuk (Thai tricycle) for a long distance. Taxi fare is cheaper than tuktuk, So after lunch we took taxi from Pratunam area for 100 bhat going to Wat Pho.

Wat Pho or Wat Phra Chetuphon is a royal temple known for the huge Reclining Buddha image, is regarded as Thailand’s first university where traditional thai massage originated and is still taught.

Beside the Wat Pho is The Grand Palace, but it was closed that time. The Grand Palace closes at 3:30 PM. We stayed outside and took some pictures.

From the Grand Palace to Bayoike hotel, we hired tuktuk for 200 bhat because my 2 friends wanted to experience riding tuktuk. I experienced riding tuktuk in Cambodia last year.

Infront of Bayoike Hotel is Pratunam Market and there is also street market which opens only from 4:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM so we tried our art of bargaining to buy items at the lowest prices.

Bangkok Day 2

With the same tour operator we paid 750 bhat per person for ticket entrance and transportation service

to Samphran Elephant, zoo and Crocodile farm, the largest crocodile farm in the world housing more than 60,000 fresh and saltwater crocodiles.

Exploring Siam Square Area, The main shopping and entertainment zone of Bangkok encompassing Siam Square, MBK Center, Siam Centre and Siam Discovery Centre. It ranks as the top shopping center in Southeast Asia. Siam Road is the Thai equivalent of Wall Street, where all leading multi-national businesses, trendy restaurants and shops are within walking distance.
Bangkok Day 3

Last day of my friends in Bangkok I accompanied them for their shopping moments, because they will be living at 8:00 PM bound to Manila. Bangkok Day 4

My last day in Bangkok. After breakfast I packed my belongings but before checking out the hotel, I went back to The Grand Palace. Ticket costs 300 bhat. No shorts allowed to go inside. The guard asked me to pay 100 Bhat a refundalbe deposit to borrow pants.
The Grand Palace - This magnificent Royal Compound is where important religious and royal ceremonies are conducted. It’s established in 1782, Aside from those I mentioned it’s also the royal residence and throne halls, renowned Temple of the emerald Buddha and houses of number of government offices.

I came back at the hotel to check out. I left my belongings at hotel baggage counter then explore the city for the last time. There are lots of tourist in Bangkok mostly European.

At 7:30 PM, I returned to hotel to avail my transfer service bound to airport at 8:00 PM.
WoW! 3 cities in 3 countries in just 7 days is a great experience, This was my last travel for the year.

What a great year… 2008 is my year of travel.

Hong Kong and Macau are both in South China. Macau was ruled by Portugal from 1557, and Hong Kong became a British colony in 1842. Both were returned to China in the 1990s, but have separate economic and political structures from the rest of the country.

PLEASURES OF THE ORIENT, MACAU

August 15, 2008, my friends and I were on the plane boarding to Macau. From Macau Airport in Taipa Island, taxi fare costs 90MOP including charges on luggage, going to the Macau Peninsula. Macau Peninsula is linked with Taipa Island by 3 bridges, and Taipla is linked to Coloane by the Taipa-Coloane Causeway (a newly reclaimed Cotai area).

While in the cab, I never saw darkness in Macau, like in Shanghai and in Hong Kong, they don’t save electricity.

The Macau Peninsula is the most interesting area as it is packed with historical attractions and interesting streets as designated a UNESCO World Heritage site and is home to most of Macau’s casinos and entertainment spots “ala” Las Vegas Nevada.

There are various freebies in the casinos. Free water, coffee and juice, bus service, ball pen, passport cover, umbrella and more.

Left over old buildings from the colonial period includes:

Largo Do Senado (Senate Square) – A colorful typical Iberian town square, this is the traditional heart of Macau, most of the buildings having an administrative function during the Portuguese era. Now the place is popular venue for public events and crowds gather here just to soak in the atmosphere, socialize, shops and dine. In here we ate our first lunch in Macau with delicious Portuguese foods.

Sao Paulo de Ruinas (St. Paul Cathedral Ruin) - the most famous city landmark

Old Churches, School Buildings, cemetery and more.
We got a great view over Macau and Taipa at Macau Tower (Torre de Macau) the 10th tallest tower in the world, which also indulging in extreme sports, due to the Hacket Howard’s Sky Jump and bungee jumping from the 61st level of the tower or 233 meter in height. Guinness world of record recognized the activities as the highest sky jump and bungee jumping in the world.

I have a planned to do the sky jump which costs of almost 900 Patacas but I was not physically fit to do the activity due to cough. But next time when I will come back to Macau I will do it.

Getting around in Macau, walking is suggested, so that you can shop and take photos as you go along the trail, except for going to the Venetian in Taipa Island or in Macau Tower which required to take a cab or bus, especially going to Taipa Island from Macau central which crosses the more than 2 km Macau-Taipa bridge.

If you are thirsty in walking, just go inside the casino and have some drinks, it’s free by the way.

If you are lost in Macau, don’t worry there are many Filipinos around who are willing to help you. By the way we’re stayed in a friend’s house in Macau Peninsula. A Filipina friend accompanied us to shop. She guided us where can we buy perfumes at low prices (not Sasa). She took us at the Esprit Factory outlet near at the boundary of Macau and Mainland China.

Sunday at 4:00 pm, we’re boarding in a free bus service of Ponti Hotel and Casino going to the Macau Ferry Terminal. Turbo Jet Ferry ticket going to Hong Kong cost 135 Patacas. It’s an hour journey from Macau to Kowloon Hong Kong. Before 6:00 pm we’re on the China Ferry Terminal in No. 33 Canton Road, Kowloon Hong Kong. After we passed the immigration of Hong Kong in Ferry Terminal we turned right to check in Royal Pacific Hotel it’s only beside the ferryterminal. Yes, Royal Pacific Hotel is the best hotel for tourists coming to Hong Kong from Macau especially those who have many luggages.

HONG KONG…LIVE IT...LOVE IT..

Hong Kong is Hong Kong. They said the shopping haven in Asia.

We had only 2 nights and 1 whole day in Hong Kong to stroll.

After checking in at the Royal Pacific Hotel at 6:30 PM and got a short rest, we walked along Canton Road then to Nathan Road heading the Avenue of Stars and have dinner.
Then we took a cab bound to the night market at Temple Street.

The next morning, I was ready to explore Hong Kong and Lantau Island for only 1 day.

We took MTR at the Jordan Station in Nathan Road and alighted at the Central Station in Hong Kong Island. We walked for about 20 minutes reaching the Peak Tram Station.

Tram ticket cost 33 HKD (return ticket-adult) and 15 HKD (return ticket-child). Riding the Peak tram up an almost 45-degree angle to the tallest point on Hong Kong Island was a great experience. It’s my first time. There are a number of lookout points, including the Peak Circle Walk and the Lugard Road Lookout.

From the Peak Tram we’re backed at the Central Station and got ticket of MTR Tung Chung Line to reach the Huge Seated Buddha in Ngong Ping Village and Disneyland located in Lantau Island.

From the MTR Tung Chung Station we walked to the Ngong Ping Cable Car. Cable Car ticket cost 88HKD (return). Going to the house of the world’s tallest outdoor bronze seated Buddha would

take 25 minutes via cable car or 50 minutes back and forth ride.

At 3:30 PM we’re on the Sunny Bay Station, a connecting MTR station, going to Disneyland. It’s nice to be young and child again. (he he he )

We came late . . . really; very late… we only saw the last part of Parade. I’ve nothing to say more about Disneyland just see the pictures. TIP: to go to Disneyland bring your child or children for more enjoyable and thrilling experience and adventure on the rides and attractions, because next time I will bring mine. Disneyland ticket costs 350 HKD (adult – peak season) and 250 HKD (children – peak season) Then we returned to Kowloon Island, in our hotel, to have our last dinner in Hong Kong. We negotiated the hotel transfer service for 130HKD per person. We checked out the Hotel as early as 7:00 AM the next morning (Tuesday) and at 7:45 AM we’re in the bus service bound to the Hong Kong International Airport. Our departure was 11:00 AM and arrived at the NAIA exactly 1:00 PM.

To explore other country is such a nice and great experience which I can treasure for the rest of my life. I really love to travel and can’t wait for my next journey in October. (he he he)

While waiting for my next international travel, I decided to explore the nearby towns and cities outside of Metro Manila. Places which are interesting and exhilarating to visit, remembering the past and pat the art of Filipinos. But due to bad weather, I've been only two towns for this month of July 2008.

Kawit, Cavite
July 20, 2008

From Edsa you can board a bus going to Bacoor, Cavite and alight at SM Bacoor, then transfer to another bus or mini bus heading Cavite City via Kawit. Ask the driver or the conductor that you will alight at the Aguinaldo Shrine.

In this house, the Philippine Independence was declared by Pres. Emilio Aguinaldo, the first President of the Philippine Republic, against Spain and America on June 12, 1898, through the reading of

THE ACT OF PROCLAMATION OF INDEPENDENCE OF THE FILIPINO PEOPLE, which the full act was engraved on the black wall constructed in front of the shrine, during the occasion the current Philippine flag was officially unfurled as the band of Malabon played the National Anthem.

This house was built more than 110 years ago now called The Aguinaldo Shrine.

On June 12, 2008 was the 110th year celebration of Philippine Independence and on July 20, 2008 was my first time in front of the shrine.

The shrine is open to public during Tuesday thru Saturday. Unfortunately, I couldn’t enter just because it’s Sunday. So if you are planning to go, plan it during the days as scheduled above.

Angono, Rizal

As the Art of Capital of the Philippines, Angono, Rizal is a worth place to visit, seeing the transforming ordinary items into extra-ordinary works of art. This small town is noted for its two National Artists, Carlos “Botong” Francisco and Lucio San Pedro.

Boarding in FX van bound to Angono from EDSA Central Terminal for P45.00 fare, the trip was pleasant even with heavy rains (hahaha), yes there was a typhoon Igme when we passed on the road where “Ang Nuno” placed to greet all passers-by. By the way Angono is from Pilipino word “Ang Nuno”.

Alighted in front of Angono Public Market and took a tricycle to Balaw Balaw Restaurant, a famous restaurant in the area serving exotic foods

Balaw Balaw is a native sauce made from fermented shrimps, red rice and a porridgy base, I tasted it and truly delicious.
Balaw balaw restaurant have various artsy things on display and art museum on the second floor.

One block away from Balaw Balaw restaurant is the Nemiranda (Nemesio Miranda) Arthouse café and restaurant.

Boarding again in another tricycle to Blanco’s Family Museum, the museum displays the paintings of the famous family of painters in our country. Entrance fee is P50.00. I met Mr. Michael Blanco and his family who explained the history of all paintings in front of us. Their works are really amazing.

Walking the street from Blanco’s Museum the rains stopped. We’re heading the street lined with re-interpretations of Carlos “Botong” Francisco’s works and

The Higantes (Giants) Festival in this town celebrates every November 23, where the giants made of paper mache are paraded in honor of their patron saint, San Clemente.
Angono Petroglyphs is a pre-historic drawings discovered in the boundary of Angono and Binangonan, Rizal, in 1965 and the 127 drawings on the rock wall estimated to date back to 3000 B.C. I never had a chance to see those drawings due to bad weather.

The Land of Promise, Mindanao

Mindanao, also called as The Land of Promise. Last year, I planned to go to Mindanao and Visayas before I leave the country to travel abroad … it was not happened. I’ve been in several countries but not yet in Mindanao and Visayas.

On April 2008 a client ABS Promotions Corporation requested me to audit their branch in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. It’s a cash audit only so I was thinking that the job could be done for 2 to 3 days.

I made my own itinerary so I include exploring some scenery in Northern Mindanao. I phoned in City Light Travel and Tours with Telephone Number 535-4902 (advertising…huh! hehehe) to book tickets. I also logged-in… googling about the place, searching hotels, transportation and sceneries.

The client requested not to call their staff. They wanted to surprise them for audit.

Sunday April 27 at 10:00AM, I was in a cab heading the Centennial Terminal to be in my 1:00 PM flight which expected to arrive in Cagayan de Oro (CDO) after 1 hour and 20 minutes of journey

The Golden City of Friendship

My first step on The Land of Promise was damp. Heavy rain welcomed me at the CDO Airport. I felt a little nervous just because I don’t know how to speak and understand their dialect. They are also good in tagalog but mostly they speak in visaya. I approached the Tourist Assistant to have the map and asked some questions. He said that plenty of cabs waiting outside the airport with a flat rate of 300 pesos bound to the city center. If Cambodia and Thailand have "tuktuk", CDO has "motorela"

I asked the driver to bring me at the Gaisano Mall from there I will ask some assistance on looking for a hotel nearby. I ask also the cab driver what was the nearest hotel in
Gaisano Mall. He pointed out the UCCP hotel which was one block away from the mall.
There was only 1 room available that day so I grabbed it. One thing that I choose
To stay in UCCC hotel was that the hotel is located corner the Pacana Street wherein the ABS office is also located.

The next morning I called ABS office in CDO to ask how to get in there. Surprisingly, it was a few steps away from the UCCP hotel.

While working, I was talking with the branch head about the place. He said that Maria Cristina falls in Iligan City is only 2 hours to travel from CDO same with Camiguin Island and Del Monte Plantation in Bukidnon. He also mentioned the water rafting at Cagayan de Oro River.

Wednesday, my free time… the time of my adventure and misadventure in Northern Mindanao. AT 6:00 AM I walked along the Marcos Bridge crossing the CDO River, at the end of the bridge, there was a jeep waiting heading to CDO West Grand Terminal

I took the bus bound to Iligan City.

The country side …..

After almost 2 hours journey, the bus arrived at the Iligan City Integrated Terminal, from there I asked an assistance at the Tourist Information Center. She gave me the direction on how to get in the Maria Cristina Falls

The City of Majestic Waterfalls

I took a jeep going to the Public Market of Iligan, wherein the jeep terminal with signboard, Ditucalan is located. The jeep moved. I approached the lady beside me and asked the fare to Maria Cristina. She doesn’t know the fare; instead she questioned me where in Maria Cristina I will be going. I replied . . . in Maria Cristina Falls. She said I was in the wrong jeep. The right jeep was one with the signboard, Buru-an. After giving me instructions, she asked me to transfer…and I did. In just a few seconds a jeep going to Buru-an stopped in front of me…I rushed to get in and told the driver, whatever the lady said. Then in Agus 6 after the bridge the jeep stopped.

In that area, there are motorcycle drivers waiting. I approached and asked how much the fare going to Maria Cristina Falls. It’s only 30pesos (return fare). At the entrance of the Park, tourists are required to register for free. They don’t allow belongings inside the park.

Maria Cristina Falls is a waterfall of the Agus River on the island of Mindanao. It is sometimes called as the "twin falls" as the flow is separated by a rock at the brink of the waterfall. It is a landmark of Iligan City, nicknamed the City of Majestic Waterfalls, because of the presence of more than 20 waterfalls in the city. It is located 9.3 kilometers away southwest of the city proper at the boundaries of Barangays Maria Cristina, Ditucalan, and Buru-un. Well-known for its natural beauty and grandeur, the 320-feet high waterfalls is also the primary source of electric power for the city's industries, being harnessed by the Agus VI Hydroelectric Plant.

I’ve seen Maria Cristina Falls only in post cards and magazines.

That time when I reached Iligan City, I was really excited to see her.

So this is it……….the largest or the tallest falls in the Philippines. Unluckily, I never had seen her as “twin falls” just because of not much water in Agus River.

The Legend

There were two beautiful sisters named Maria (the younger) and Cristina (the elder) living near the falls where Indarapata’s irrigation system is located. They love each other very much to the extent that Maria gave everything she have to Cristina. They also loved their neighbor as they loved themselves.

Since Maria & Cristina are good-looking and attractive maidens, many Datus & Sultans came to ask for their hands in marriage, but the sisters refused. However, there was an unhappy son of a famous Sultan living somewhere nearby Lake Lanao .He couldn't find find the girl that he really loved. He traveled around the lake until he saw the two maidens of the falls. He fell in love with the Maria and Cristina but the two sisters did not know whom he really loved. Days have passed and Maria realized that she loved the son of the sultan very much, which made her very sad and she went to the top of the falls and jumped. When Cristina her sister, found out that Maria was dead, she likewise went to the top of the falls and tossed herself down the deep ravine.

When the handsome young man discovered what happened and found the dead bodies, he buried them carefully under the falls and never married until he also died. He named the falls, Maria Cristina, after the two sisters he loved.

The Born of Fire

from Iligan at exactly 12:00 noon, I went to ABS office to answer some of the staff inquiries. After 2 hours I decided to go to Camiguin Island instead to Del Monte Plantation in Malaybalay, Bukidnon. I rushed to the CDO East Central Terminal. I need to catch the last barge to Camiguin in Balingoan Pier at 4:30 PM. unfortunately, the last van heading to Balingoan pier left few minutes ago. Someone approached mo to offer his van for P1, 000.00. We agreed P 800.00. We rushed to move. At exactly 4:30 PM I was in the Balingoan Pier. I purchased ticket (P120.00) and paid terminal fee (3.50). Luckily, I got the last trip of barge bound to Camiguin. It’s an 1 hour and 30 minutes journey via barge.

I hired a motorcycle service for a total of P450.00. To drive me from pier to Paguias Resort Mambajao CAmiguin wherein I stayed overnight for P800.00 then the next morning to explore the island and back to pier at 8:00 AM

CAMIGUIN is a pear-shaped volcanic island with a total land area of 238 sq. kilometers. It lies 10 kilometers off the coast of the Province of Misamis Oriental.

CAMIGUIN ISLAND is said to be "Born of Fire". It has seven volcanoes unmatched anywhere else in Southeast Asia. Volcanic eruptions and land movements have created this spectacular island full of natural wonders and historical riches.

Sunken Cemetery
A large white cross marks a cemetery swept into the sea by Old Vulcan Daan's eruption in 1871. From here it is a perfect place to watch the glorious sunset over the ocean. It is also an ideal place for snorkeling and diving. An annual fluvial procession is held by townsfolk in honor of the sunken graves of their forefathers and as a thanksgiving for a bountiful harves

16 kilometers from Catarman proper. A fluvial procession, usually organized by the townsfolk of Barangay Bonbon, is held to honor the sunken graves of their forefathers, usually done on the month of November.

May 1 Labor Day at exactly 12:00 noon I was already in CDO,

(JOB FAIR AT LIMKETKAI MALL) I checked out at UCCP hotel then took a cab heading the CDO airport.

Goodbye Mindanao…but surely I shall return.

For more than 30 years I always spent holy week in Lucena City, Quezon. . . my hometown.
Summer. . . Hot. . . Dry? (Whew!!!)

This year . . . No. . . I experienced a “winter holy week” hahahaha

Monday, March 17, 2008 I was with my friends departing at the NAIA bound to Shanghai China for a holy week vacation. Contemplating at the Great Wall of China or at the Bund . . . whatever. . (lol).

March is the last month of winter season in China and the beginning of spring.

We arrived at the Pudong International Airport at around 12:00 midnight. It’s a 3 hour journey from Manila to Shanghai.

I tried not to wear winter jacket. It’s hot inside the airport, but when the door opened I ran inside to get and wear my jacket . . .
Shit! It’s freezing cold outside. My friends laughed. It seems like I was inside the freezer.
The highest temperature that time was 10 degrees Celsius and the lowest is 2 degrees Celsius.

In Pudong International Airport, we hired 2 cars for 550Yuan. It’s an hour travel to the city proper of Shanghai, particularly in Nanjing Road wherein our hotel is located.

We checked in and get rest. The next is a showering morning; we went to the Shanghai Railway Station to buy Z train ticket bound to Beijing for March 19.

I was amazed with their subways. If we have 3 lines of MRT here in Manila, Shanghai had plenty of subways. It was not difficult to get subway tickets. There is an English key on the touch-screen ticket vendo machine. Some ticketing counter speaks and understands English. Minimum fare is 3Yuan.

The Z train going to Beijing is an express and overnight train.

When its door closed in Shanghai it would be opened the next morning in Beijing. It’s a 12-hour journey from Shanghai to Beijing China. Train Ticket cost 286Yuan for soft seat and 586Yuan for soft sleeper. I bought only the soft seat ticket, to save some money for my shopping. Round trip ticket costs 572Yuan.

Then we returned to Nanjing Road – East, the famous pedestrian road and commercial center in Shanghai. We looked for a good restaurant for lunch. After lunch, shopping began.

I went to the BUND alone the next morning.

March 19 at 12:00 noon we checked out from the hotel (East Asia Hotel) and transfer to another hotel (New Harbour Service Apartment Hotel) to bring our things. Out booking on this hotel would be March 22. We need to safe our things first in this hotel before going to Beijing China.

Then we went to People’s park.

At 6:30 pm, we’re on the Shanghai Railway Station. The Z train departed at 7:38 pm.
My first time on the train. . . . When I was a kid, I experienced riding the PNR with my mother going to Padre Burgos Quezon. After not quit long years (lol), here I was inside the Z train of China. They said this train is the newest in China. Z means express train.

There are Rest Room, mini restaurant and smoking area on this train. I was in the soft seaters cab of the train. We’re 5 who choose the soft seat, my other 3 friends choose the soft sleeper (bed).

The next morning we arrived at Beijing Railway station.
Shanghai and Beijing Railway Station are huge. I think they are bigger than our NAIA 1 and 2.

Harmony Hotel, wherein we could spend the night of May 20 is near with Beijing Railway station and subway. We had the early check in on this hotel. We bought breakfast coupon to have breakfast first before going to Olympic Green Park. Breakfast buffet coupon on this hotel costs 42Yuan, Not bad, it’s a buffet anyway and have vegetarian foods.

I have read on the internet that the National Stadium and the National Aquatic Center at the Olympic Green Park in Beijing were opened for tourist in March. When we get there after a very long walked from the subway, the project was not yet finished. All tourists and locals were not allowed to enter in the under construction project National Aquatic Center and the The National Stadium (the bird's nest)

After some picture taking at the Olympic Area, we took a cab heading the Forbidden City. Imperial Palace or Forbidden City is the world’s largest palace in terms of land area. Unfortunately we’re not allowed to get in. The ticked booth closes at 3:30 pm, when we got there it’s already 4:00pm.

We walked again heading the Tiananmen Square; it’s a “no sweat” walking (lol) . . . yeah… really. .. still winter).

In Beijing, I noticed the great preparation of China Government for the incoming Beijing Summer Olympic in August 2008. New subway trains, new pavements, new buildings, lots of Beijing 2008 advertisement. . . at the airport, mall, restaurant. . .anywhere in Beijing you can see Beijing 2008 logo.

I bought some Olympic (authentic) souvenirs at the Wangfujing.
Wangfujing is like the Nanjing Road of Shanghai. It’s a commercial center and a pedestrian road.

March 21 Good Friday; we had an early check out. We had our breakfast at McDonalds, because we need to get rush at the Bus terminal No. 919 before 9:00 AM to buy tickets for our Great wall adventure. Round trip bus ticket plus entrance to great wall and Ming’s Wax Museum cost 125 Yuan. After more than an Hour, we’re on the Great Wall of China, still the new 7 wonders of the World.
The tour guide said, we need to go back before 3:00 PM, and we did.
Good Friday... so I said a little prayer that time, 3:00 PM was the hour when Jesus died at the cross.

The night of March 21, we’re on the Z train again heading back to Shanghai. From Shanghai Railway station we proceed to the New Harbour Service Hotel.
We had an early checked in at this hotel. It’s a nice 4-star hotel.

One night stay costs 130USD (Is it expensive?). hehehe

Our room was 1303 so it’s on the 13th floor (yeah. . . really). There is kitchen, dining, living area with 2 bedrooms and 1 T&B

March 23, we’re returned to the Yu Yuan commercial center to buy some “pasalubong” and ate street foods. Then the night before heading to the Airport, I dropped by at the Bund to see

Pudong area at night. This area is the east and new side of Shanghai. Wherein the 4th world's tallest tower (oriental pearl TV tower), the 3rd and the 5th tallest building (Shanghai WFC and Jin Mao Bldg., resp.) are located .

At 8:30 pm we get in the cab to Pudong International Airport, via Shanghai Airlines we arrived at NAIA at around 4:30 AM.

Seven days in China doing mostly malling and shopping was a nice experience. Climate was good although it’s difficult to communicate with Chinese people because they’re not (all) understand and speak English, it was being funny on both of us.

It’s great to be in China; definitely, I will be going back, but in other key cities.

Backpackers at the Highest Peak of Luzon

Nov. 29, 2007 a pathetic ex-military man and now a senator was trying to lead another coup d’etat or another people power. But thank God, no one joined him. The opposition and militant groups or the civilians never mind him, I think the Filipinos were dead beat for this kind of scenarios.

At around 8:00 pm of November 29, 2007, the exaggerated PNP declared a curfew from 12:00 midnight up to 5:00 am in the morning of Nov. 30, 2007. But no one can stop us for our trip to the highest peak of Luzon (lol).

At 9:30 pm we’re at the Autobus Terminal in Espana, Manila and waiting for our bus to depart at 10:45 pm. We heard from the news that passengers coming in and out of Metro Manila are exempted from the curfew (nice news).

The bus departed at 12:30 am (Nov 30, 2007), almost two hours delayed causing that coup attempt. In Bulacan, PNP stopped our bus and the driver announced that we would be continued our journey at 5:00 am due to curfew. A group of lady passengers complained (blah, blah, blah). I never heard the correct reasons, that passengers on bus were exempted from the curfew. But for “whatever” they said to the PNP, they allowed us to pass.

DAY 1 – To Sagada via Banaue and Bontoc

We supposed to arrive in Banaue at around 8:30 am but because of many hassles, we arrived lunch time (I don’t know the exact time). We paid first our fare back to Manila on Dec.2.

As backpackers, we asked the locals where to get bus ticket to Bontoc, Mt. Province. A Tricycle driver answered. His answers were the same as what I have read at the Internet blog of travelers.

We decided to wait the bus heading Bontoc at the View Point in Banaue and had some photos of Banaue Rice Terraces. We paid P100.00 for the tricycle driver (from Autobus terminal to View Point) it’s a 20-minutes drive. After a while the bus going to Bontoc, Mt. Province arrived.

Almost 3-hour journey from Banaue, Ifugao Province to Bontoc, Mt. Province. Roads are mostly rough causing the landslides; some are under construction and repair. Along the way, aside from landslides we have seen many mini-water falls, mini-rice terraces and of course mountains. The bus stopped for a while at the highest peak bus stop over in Luzon.

Using of toilet costs P2.00. Bus fare from Banaue to Bontoc costs P130.00 each.

When we arrived at Bontoc, we asked some passengers and local where the jeepney terminal going to Sagada was located. We walked heading the terminal.

From Bontoc to Sagada the fare costs P35.00 each and it’s a 30 minutes travel.

It’s freezing in Sagada when we arrived. We proceed to Municipal Hall to register, as we read at the Internet. Registration cost P10.00 per tourist. At the information center they explained to us the rate of tourist guide but we didn’t hired one. We bought Sagada map for P25.00.

In front of Municipal Hall is the Alfredo’s Inn and Restaurant.

We inquired the rates of this hotel and luckily the rate was good enough for us to check in and have late lunch before exploring Sagada. We’re not go for caving (Sayang. . . Pagbalik na lang.)

DAY 2 – Back to Banaue

At 2:00 pm we checked out from the hotel and proceed to jeepney terminal going back to Bontoc. But unfortunately the last trip left at 12:00 noon. So we rushed to hire a van for P1, 200.00 going back to Bontoc to catch the last trip of Cable tour Bus at 3:00 pm going to Manila via Banaue. We arrived at Bontoc at 2:30 pm.

Bontoc to Banaue fare at Cable Tour Bus costs P135.00 each.

Lesson: Don’t rely information (100%) on the Internet. I have read that jeepney from Sagada to Banaue departs every one hour until 5:00 pm that is why we’re not rushed for the 12:00 noon trip.

Bontoc, Mountain Province is a town walled by Mountains.

The Bus departed at 3:30 pm and arrived in Banaue at 6:30 pm. We walked down from the highway going to the central and find a hotel wherein we can spend the night. Greenview Inn and Restaurant was our choice. After checking in and while we’re having our dinner, we discussed if we will continue our journey to Battad the next morning.

We decided not, for the reason that we‘re not sure if can do the trail (by feet) to Battad Rice Terraces and Tappian Falls in 2-hours and another 2-hours back to Battad Junction. In addition to the total of 4 hours foot trail is the 1-hour trip from Banaue central to Battac Junction. (Total of 6 hours back and forth excluding the pictorials - - lol). We’re also not sure if can get in the last trip of Auto Bus to Manila at 6:00 pm.
DAY 3 – Exploring Banaue

After having breakfast, we looked the map of Banaue displayed at the hotel to study where can we start exploring Banaue.

But it’s Sunday so we decided to attend the mass first.

We hired a tricycle for P250.00 going to View point of Banaue (again)
then to People’s Ethnic Village then back to Banaue central.
After Lunch, we proceed to the Banaue Hotel and Tam-an Village then shopping of souvenirs and pasalubong.
At 3:00 pm we had some snacks at the hotel. In Sagada and Banaue, foods cost at minimum of P100.00 (complete meal) for every meal. Hotel rate is minimum P200.00 per head per night (common toilet and bath). There are also rooms with private T&B, like what we had for only P600.00 per night.

At 5:00 pm we rushed to Autobus Terminal. It’s a 20-minute walk from the hotel to the bus terminal. The bus scheduled to depart at 6:00 pm and expected to arrive in Quezon City at 3:00 Am. So we did.

Travel to Sagada and Banaue, as backpacker
(without any hotel and bus reservations and tourist guide) was another great experience.

Thank God we traveled safe.
